Handmade Leather Wallets

Crafted by hand in the San Francisco Bay Area using full-grain veg-tanned leather.

SPRING DROP: Gaucho Oil!

Gaucho Oil leather is one of the finest leathers in the world, sourced from Italy and made using traditional vegetable tanning methods. It’s a full-grain leather with rich oils and an incredibly soft, almost silky hand feel, with a subtle waxy touch. Because it’s minimally processed, each piece shows natural grain and character. It’s durable, holds its shape over time, and develops a deep patina with use.

MEET THE MAKER

Hi! My name is Nick. Every item in this online shop has been designed and handmade by me in my San Francisco Bay Area studio. I run this boutique business myself with the occasional bits of help from my wife and our 10 and 11 year old boys. I put the utmost care and passion into every item I make. Thank you for stopping by and please reach out with any questions.

INTRODUCING B-STOCK

This is where experiments live. New leathers, one-off prototypes, and finished pieces with small cosmetic flaws like light scratches or blemishes. Nothing here is broken or compromised. These items did not make the main lineup, but they are still built to last and priced accordingly. If you like a little character and a solid deal, you are in the right place.

WHAT IS VEGETABLE-TANNED LEATHER?

Is it real leather? Yes. Is it full grain? Yes. Vegetable tanning or, veg-tan simply refers to the tanning method of the leather. Not only is vegetable tanning leather one of the oldest methods of tanning full-grain leather (some say 5000 years), it’s also the most environmentally friendly. This technique involves using natural vegetable tannins such as birch, oak, willow, chestnut, and other natural extracts to tan a hide rather than using harsh chemicals like chromium (this is called chrome-tanned leather). The result is a higher quality, premium leather that ages and patinas beautifully and naturally. This tanning method drastically reduces the amount of harsh chemicals released into the environment.

PLASTIC SUCKS

At Coastline, we ship our products without using any plastic in our packaging because…plastic sucks. Micro-plastics have been found in even the most remote reaches of our planet. We want nothing to do with that. In our packages you’ll find only recycled paper, cotton, and your leather product.
